There are many companies that have contributed to the growth and history of agriculture industry. John Deere is one of the biggest ones. They started in 1837 and provided very simple tools like plows and shovels. In 1895 they started an agricultural journal called “The Furrow”. By 1907 it had 500,000 readers and is now sold in 115 countries.
Although John Deere’s invention was a very big advantage to the farmers and helped feed billions it also helped cause mass erosion. Due to this waterways get polluted and farmland is damaged. Some species have also gone extinct due to the habitats for wildlife being damaged. The dust bowl was also a result of this, without the roots of the soil to hold the dirt in place dust completely buried many towns.
The history of agriculture began in the fertile crescent in the early 1900’s. Also called the “cradle of civilization” the fertile crescent is a fertile area of land in the middle east. In Egypt and Mesopotamia groups of people started digging and repairing canals which helped control the flow of rivers. The Nile river also had annual floodings which was a big disadvantage for ancient farmers, but eventually sophisticated irrigation systems were developed and have been improving ever since.
